Shangri-La Group to Build 6-Star Hotel and Luxury Residences at the Fort
The Philippines' Bases Conversion and Development Authority on Thursdayannounced that the Hong Kong based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts grouphas made known its interest in building a six-star luxury hotel andluxury residences inside Fort Bonifacio in Taguig City.
BCDA President and CEO Narciso Abaya said the site of Shangri-La forthe project is the 1.2-hectare lot owned by the government beside theCity Center of the Bonifacio Global City.
The lot, formerly known as the Government Center for Investment, isalso the area being eyed by the real-estate and entertainment tycoonDonald Trump for a planned integrated complex project.
Abaya said Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts Vice President Greg Doganrevealed its plan to build a six-star hotel and luxury residences inthe area during a preliminary presentation made by the company beforethe BCDA Board on May 15.
Santos said Shangri-La Group's plan is a welcome development in the overall development of the Bonifacio Global City.
Abaya said the signified interest of both Shangri-la and Trump groupsfor the 1.2 hectare lot at the Bonifacio Global City manifestssustained solid investor confidence in the developments in the area.
The Bonifacio Global City is located only a few minutes away from theMakati and Ortigas Central Business Districts, the Ninoy AquinoInternational Airport and major thoroughfares like C-5.
The Global City also has world-class infrastructure including anunderground drainage detention structure with the capacity to hold 22million liters of water and release it under controlled conditions toprevent floods. It also has a fiber optic cabling network to support awide range of telephone, video and data applications.
Shangri-La Luxury Residences to open at the Fort
SHANGRI-LA Asia Limited, Asia Pacifics leading luxury hotel company, will openShangri-La at the Fort, Manila in 2012, located within the FortBonifacio former military base and city centre.
At over 60 storeys, comprising 500 guestrooms and 234 apartments, the building is destined to become a Manila landmark.
The new hotel will complement the companys four existing hotel properties in the Philippines and the Shangri-La Resort and Spa, Boracay, scheduled to open at the end of 2008.
The mixed-use business, residential and retail tower will be located along Fifth Avenue and 30th, within the new, fast-developing Taguig business district. A 30-minute drive from the international airport, the hotel will also be close to the Manila Golf and Polo Club,and 10 minutes from Makati district, the capitals financial, cultural and entertainment hub with first-class shopping malls.
Shangri-La has named US-based Skidmore, Owings and Merrill LLP as architect and Hirsch Bedner Associates will undertake the interior design for guestrooms and the main lobby. The tower will present a contemporary yet timeless design with the facade of the building tapering skyward, maximising the ocean view.
Guestrooms will range in size from 52 square metres for a standard room to 260 square metres for a Horizon Club room.
The Horizon Club, Shangri-La's exclusive retreat for discerning travellers, will offer a host of special amenities and privileges,including a lounge for daily breakfast and cocktails, meeting rooms,and express check-in and check-out services.
Dining and entertainment options will include an all-day café, delicafé, specialty restaurant, Chinese restaurant, lobby lounge, poolside bar and barbecue, and an entertainment and bar area that will occupy two levels and have its own direct street access.
An extensive health club, swimming pools and tennis courts will provide a choice of recreational activities.
The hotel will feature over 4,600 square metres of meeting and banqueting facilities including a grand ballroom, junior ballroom, 11function rooms, boardroom, business centre, individual teleconferencing room and a 350-square-metre high-end outdoor event area.
